Spiritual Disciplines

This is what our Adult Bible Fellowship, at Calvary Church is studying.
The word associated with "disciplines" are instructive in of themselves.

DISCIPLE

a :  one of the twelve in the inner circle of Christ's followers according to the Gospel accounts
b :  a convinced adherent of a school or individual
Discipline
 noun dis·ci·pline \ˈdi-sə-plən\
: control that is gained by requiring that rules or orders be obeyed and punishing bad behavior
: a way of behaving that shows a willingness to obey rules or orders
: behavior that is judged by how well it follows a set of rules or orders
Disciplined
 adjective dis·ci·plined
:  marked by or possessing discipline <a disciplined mind>

So these disciplines for us as followers (disciples) of Christ, are the things that we do that will help us model more closely his life. To be more like Jesus in every area of our lives, is the goal. We know that Jesus said that "if you love Me, keep my commandments".
What are some of these disciplines that we need to help us in our goal to me more like Jesus?
Perhaps here are some that we historically think of.
  • worship
  • prayer
  • Bible reading
  • Bible study
  • Meditation
  • Fellowship...for accountability, for confession
  • Celebration
  • fasting
  • Simplicity or frugality
  • Submission
  • Service
  • Solitude
  • Silence
  • Chastity
None for the purpose of being more acceptable....more righteous
All to God's honor...to His glory....for HE ALONE IS WORTHY!

God give us strength for the task...to Your glory
